for almost two decades, since the E39 BMW M5 unleashed on motorists, and the segment of sports sedans drove his ghost since. Shortly after the BMW was crowned the mythical perfection, Cadillac has made a substantial change in its development focus to the younger yard plus performance buyers of mind.

Since then, Cadillac has generously pilfered Corvette parts bin program to move the brand away from the nursing home and nonexistent Autobahn of America. In the meantime, the BMW M Division has put its Playbook on fire and started piling up content on its performance models.

When the second generation CTS-V broke the lap record production sedan at the Nürburgring in 08, it became clear that the conversation really started to change.

the next eight years we are in the middle of the second golden age of the automobile, as shown by the revelation that this new super-sedan 640 horses is somehow not American four doors more powerful than you can now buy off the showroom.

Powertrain
Although there is undoubtedly a very reasonable business case to omit a manual gearbox from the list of options for the new V-Series, it is still sorely missed. GM has chosen to develop their own eight-speed automatic for the current crop of applicable cars. While they boast that it moves with the same urgency as the PDK Porsche (as it is calibrated in the Z06 Corvette, anyway), I did not drive a GM vehicle equipped with this gearbox that is also cooperative and changes with the same level of urgency as the unit ZF eight-speed used in a multitude of vehicles across the industry, let alone dual-clutch unit of Porsche

that does not mean it is a terrible gearbox -. it certainly is not - but in terms of commitment of the driver, it does not leave anything on the table.

the rest of the car was not good. Make no mistake, the CTS-V is a high performance incredibly well sor ted machine that effectively showcases the engineering feats that Cadillac has now at his disposal.

The 6.2 liter Caddy yanked the C7 Corvette Z06, tuned here to the above 640 horsepower and 630 lb-ft of torque. Although it is not the same level of absurdity as the supercharged mill in the Dodge Charger Hellc at - especially in the field of low-end torque - its still a legitimate missile, able to get the CTS 60 mph from a standstill in 3.7 seconds. The Mopar is working with brute force and bravado, but the CTS-V is much more calm and dignified about his prodigious thrust.

While the Germans have embraced turbocharging wholeheartedly, supercharged mill of the CTS-V provides linear power delivery that seek to replicate turbos but rarely can. It comes at a cost, however: the CTS-V that I was about Big Willow last year compound return of power on my first flying lap because of dangerously high engine temperatures. To be fair, the car was followed with only short breaks between shifts of three rounds, but I go running to 10 / 10ths even when the car cooperated with me. I doubt anyone else I shared the car with that day was either. Achilles, how is your heel?

player
Anecdotal evidence aside, I think it is unlikely that most CTS-V will see a ton of built time tracking, and I bet Cadillac was aware of that when developing the car. As a result, around town and on winding roads is where the CTS really shines. The third generation Magnetic Ride Control dampers are better than ever, offering a ride quality consistent with driving mode Tower without feeling floaty and ratchet up the appropriate sti ffness in Sport and Track modes. Unfortunately, 4,100 Caddy circumference book is still evident in the undulations of the road at high speed, even in the raciest driving modes.

While it is certainly not a featherweight, it is interesting to note that the Cadillac is still several hundred pounds lighter than both the current M5 and Me rcedes-AMG E63 S, while providing more power than both. It stops both shocking because of the beefy Brembo braking system, which can bring the car to 60 miles per hour stop in only 99 feet.

This, along with a staggered set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires summer and adds structural reinforcement that makes the CTS-V 20 percent stiffer than the standard car, equivalent to an incredible view artist of its size.

Infotainment
CUE is still quite annoying to use, although the technology Following Cadillac - which now includes Apple carplay to go with 4G LTE hotspot connectivity - to the infotainment system of the CTS-V one of the most serious efforts on the market.

indeed, the pitfalls of CUE are largely preventable through both physical buttons on the steering wheel and using the touchscreen, but frustration will quickly come back when you need to adjust anything related CVC.

configurable 12.3-inch gauge cluster CTS-V looks sharp and is easy to read, while the 8-inch touchscreen in the center console is reasonably responsive, but not quite catchy. Anyway, Cadillac gets bonus points for including navigation features and Bose surround sound system is standard on the CTS-V.

Exterior
the car is definitely the business without being ostentatious about it, and I would say it is more enjoyable to watch that one of its rivals.

is a fine line to walk, but the treatment is suitable V CTS as the hood carbon fiber ventilated redesigned air intakes and subtle rear diffuser serve both form and function without looking tacky or overworked.

That said, the hood bulge, lower fascia front suspension, quad exhaust tips, and large wheels forged clear that these are not your big SDR -Father. Although it can fly under the radar of the average motorist, interested parties will be able to say what it is at first sight.

Interior
While most surfaces you come in contact with the sensation premium appropriate, more subtle items such as glossy plastics used on the steering wheel and center console still hiding feeling low rent in a vehicle that is more than $ 0,000 as optioned.

as the ATS-V, CTS-V does not stray far from the aesthetics of the standard model, although the optional Recaro buckets will bring with them a sense of occasion, while maintaining high levels of passenger comfort.

In general, while the CTS-V is still a step or two behind the Mercedes-AMG and Audi offers in terms of overall interior swankiness, it is also nothing wrong at this stage. Whereas the CTS-V undermines the label from everything else in its class by at least ten thousand, some concessions to interior quality are forgivable price.

Bottom Line
beautiful appearance, a charming personality, grand touring comfort for the whole family and the dynamic of commitment - the CTS-V ticks all the boxes and does so with aplomb. Of course, the Audi RS7 will be faster line and E63 S could be a little more chic inside, but neither combines seemingly disparate components of a super sports sedan as effective as the CTS-V.

At this point, the target is on the back of BMW. Regarding luxury performance - at least when the latter is of greater importance -. Cadillac is now the man to beat

General Motors provided the car, insurance, and the fuel tank for this review.
